Making use of images on your website is one of the best things that you can do to enhance it. By making sure that the photos are relevant to your content and design, they can add a lot of value to your website. This, in turn, would ensure that you are able to offer something that would make your site stand out from all the rest, giving your clients a reason to choose to visit your site than your competitors’. Studies have also shown that most internet users are more likely to deem a piece of information as believable if it is accompanied by an image or photo.

Fortunately, it is easy to add photos and graphics regardless of the type of site you have because of the available resources on the internet. If you are planning to use some pictures taken on your camera on your website, here are a couple of tips that you could consider.

1. First off, the image or picture should be appropriate for the overall tone and subject of the website.

2. There are three commonly used image formats on the internet and these would be .gif, .jpeg and .png. Usually, web designers recommend the image size to be small but still visible and this makes the choice of image format critical. The .gif format would be more suitable for an image with less colors while the .jpeg format would work for an image that has a lot of colors such as real life pictures. If the image quality is important, then the .png format is most advisable as you would be sure that the image would be of the highest quality. However, .png images generally have a larger file size compared to the first two.

3. For an image to be effective, it has to have a focus. Using a vague, blurry or fuzzy image may seem unprofessional, unless you are striving for a specific effect. The image should also not have too many elements as it could distract the reader from understanding the main subject of the image.

4. The technique that you use in the graphic layout of your website is also important as placing images on various areas of your site could influence the effect that they have on the reader. Try to limit dominant images to just one for every page. Also make sure that there is ample spacing between the photos to show a sense of movement as well as guide the reader in going over your content.
